A Spirit Journal

spiritjournal.jpgO.K. With this post I’m going to make the following assumptions about you, dear reader.

  • You’re a writer — why else would you be reading a blog with “writer” in the title?
  • You spend a great deal of your time writing (or in other writing support activities).
  • You make a good deal of your income from your writing.

That said, I have a question for you: Do you take time to write just for the sheer pleasure it brings you? Do you write just for yourself because it helps you figure stuff out?

If not, you are missing out on one of writing’s biggest benefits.

I recommend you find a nice journal that feels good in your hand and keep it as a Spirit Journal. This is a journal you write in when you have random, meandering thoughts that you don’t want to loose. This is the journal you write in when there’s something you want to figure out and writing about it helps you. This is the journal where you keep all you big thoughts, bit dreams and big plans.

This the journal where your spirit expresses itself in writing.

It is so important to have an outlet for this kind of stuff. Personally, I like finding a journal that I enjoy holding and writing in. But you can always do this stuff on the computer or into a Dictaphone. You just need to record these thoughts and feelings somewhere. And you should do this at least once a week.

O.K. I’m off my pedestal now. This post just came bursting out of me today — I pondered what I was going to say all day yesterday. Yeah, this wasn’t quite as eloquent as I’d hoped, but here it is anyway — and it comes from the heart.
