Exercise and Healthy Eating

exercisefood.jpgOK, I’ve spent two weeks discussing exercise. And, if you followed the link I put at the end of Jan. 9’s post, you’ve been reading my food related posts at Carma’s Cookery. But that’s really treating food and exercise like they are separate topics.

Now, of course, to some degree they are. But, because both impact your body and its shape, they need to be considered together, as well. There are many factors that come into play when you want to begin to talk about exercise and healthy eating. Healthy eating is important for any kind of exercising program.

Let’s focus on the most common type of exercise program, aerobics. This includes running, cycling, dancing, Jazzercise, and more. As you get more and more active, you should have a good meal and a good diet to fall back on. In fact, your diet is really the first thing that you should change about yourself when you want to become healthier.

See your doctor for suggestions of what you should be eating, and implement these changes as soon as you can, because you are going to find that changing what you eat is the best way to begin a healthy lifestyle.

After you have started by changing how you are eating, you need to get into the routine of exercising in general. This is often something that is hard for people to do, because it takes a lot out of them. Don’t be hard on yourself; take baby steps. Start small — maybe with a 15-minute routine for the first few weeks — and work up to longer sessions from there.

Aerobics and other activities that raise your heart rate help you burn more fat. You will also be building muscle, so your body is going to need more protein. This means that diets aren’t going to help you, because if you don’t have the amount of protein that your body needs, you might find that you are too weak to workout as you would like.

Therefore, the first thing that you have to focus on is eating a good diet — and then you have to realize that this diet shouldn’t be one that cuts back on your eating habits completely. Many times low-calorie diets don’t have the proper nutrients that your body needs as you are doing aerobics. If you’re doing all this to loose weight, you really just need to have the calories your burn in a day be greater than the calories you take in per day — but not by too large an amount, or you could get sick.

Be sure that you are giving yourself plenty of chances to eat good foods, and be sure to talk to your doctor if you have concerns about what you should and should not be eating. These are all very important things that you can do to make sure you are on the right track when it comes to fitness as a whole.
