You Have to Eat Breakfast

No matter how busy your day starts out, you have to set a side a few minutes to eat breakfast - the first meal after a long night of fasting. It is the most important meal of the day.

After a long period without food, your blood sugar levels become very low. Skipping breakfast can mean your body will start to crave something sweet and you’ll end up snacking on unhealthy foods and tend to over eat. People who eat breakfast are significantly less likely to be obese and diabetic than those who usually don’t. Start the day with a filling and nutritious meal and you will give your metabolism a kick start. You’ll feel full until lunch time with no temptation to snack your way through the morning. Some studies have also shown that eating a nutritious breakfast can make you more alert and assertive to face the day.

You have a full day of task in front of you, don’t force yourself to running on an empty stomach, like a car, it won’t run very far on an empty tank. Say if you had your dinner the night before at 7:00 or 8:00 pm, if you skip breakfast, and your lunch time is 12:00 noon today, it is a total of 16 to 17 hours without refueling. Maybe you’ve already had a wave of nausea? Felt a little light-headed when standing up too quickly? Your hands and feet start to shake slightly? Your body is screaming out, “Hey, feed me, I need some food in here!”.

And if you keep ignoring the request? You are depriving yourself. Your body has to work extra hard to break down any stored carbohydrate or turn fat or protein into a usable form for your brain to function. Skipping breakfast can affect your concentration, problem solving ability, mental performance, memory, and mood. If you are in the habit of skipping breakfast, your digestive system begins to weaken. The stomach wall becomes thinner an may eventually turn into ulcer.

Remember, any activity such as walking, speaking, stretching, typing, thinking… requires fuel. The fuel that keeps your motor running is glucose. If you don’t supply it, your system resorts to finding stored carbohydrates or it tries to turn fat into glucose. Not good. So why not feed your body what it needs - a nutritious meal first thing in the morning?

Not just any junk in your stomach. A Chinese saying “eat breakfast like a king” has it reason. You want to prepare your body in top notch condition to face new challenges through out the day. Your breakfast should contain all the nutrients your body need, it should contain contain protein, carbohydrate, and fresh fruit or vegetable. Fresh fruit salad will provide a slow release of energy to get you through until lunchtime and also give you a healthy top up of vitamins and minerals. This healthy choice will motivate you to make healthy choices throughout the day. If you are really short on time and have got a blender, pop some peeled and cored fruit in with the yogurt and teaspoon of honey and make a delicious fresh smoothie.
