Rental Options for Traveling by RV

One way to nuture your spirit is to travel and embrace adventure. Many people, but especially those with mobile careers like writers, do this with a recreational vehicle or RV. So, I thought, with the summer travel season right around the corner, I’d take the next few posts to talk about RV travel. First up: renting an RV

Traveling by RV is a great way to reduce travel expenses, as well as spend quality time with close friends and family members. but many feel that this is not an option for them, because of the cost of ownership.

Although there are a number of benefits to owning your own motor home, it is important to know that owning is not your only option. In fact, many people, especially beginners and those who only take limited RV trips, often find the best success when using with rentals.

If and when you decide to rent an RV, you will find that you have a number of different options. To get the best deal, as well as the motor home that is best for you and your needs, it is important to take the time to familiarize yourself with these options.

For starters, you may find that you have a number of different RV rental companies to choose from. You can easily familiarize yourself with local RV rental companies by performing a standard Internet search, using online business directories, or by examining your local phone book. Before making your final decision, be sure to research the reputation of the rental companies you find. Rating and reviews can give you good insight into the company you are about to do business with. Try looking them up on the Better Business Bureau’s website or even on Yahoo! Local.

Next, examine average prices. To quickly compare prices, choose a specific type of RV, such as one that sleeps six. When comparing the rental rates of multiple companies, be sure to stay with that same example. This will give your a more accurate rental rate comparison.

Then take a look at available rental dates. It is not uncommon for a rental company to have rules and restrictions concerning rental lengths. With that being said, you should be able to find at least one RV rental company that would be willing to accommodate you and your needs. For example, some rental companies will let you rent a motor home for a few as a couple of days, but as long as a month or even longer!

You also have options in terms of the RV that you choose to rent. Always remember that motor homes come in all different sizes and styles. For extended trips, many find the best success with luxury and modern RVs. The first step in choosing the perfect motor home is knowing how many will be in your traveling party. Make sure that your rental is large enough to comfortably fit everyone. (Remember to look at sleeping arangements!)

Lastly, examine available features. As previously stated, luxury and modern RV rentals are often the most sought after. This is due, in part, to the features provided. For example, a twenty year old motor home is less likely to come equipped with a television and movie player, than a newer model. Other features include showers and full dinning room tables.

As you can see, you have a number of different options when looking to rent an RV for an upcoming trip. For that reason, you are urged to take the time to examine each and every one of your options. Planning your RV travels well in advance will enable you to examine multiple RV rental companies, as well as tour a number of motor homes to find the perfect fit for your needs.
