workoutclass.jpgYou don’t have to keep your resolutions or meet your goals all by yourself. In fact, some say you can’t. We all need a good support system to help us through the rough spots. When it comes to any kind of work out routine, having a support system is very important. There are a number of people who can be a part of your support system in order for you to keep your exercise commitment. These people will help you stay motivated so that you aren’t tempted to skip your aerobics and watch television instead!

Professional Support — Health Care

First, a health care professional should be at the head of your support system. Doctors, such as your primary care physician or even a chiropractor, will be able to give you suggestions about your exercise routine, as well as point out anything you are doing that could be bad for your body. When you have a doctor on your side for your exercise, you know that you are being safe and making good health decisions. Make sure that you visit your doctor regularly to chart your progress and also check with him or her when you drastically change your workout program.

Professional Support — Trainers

Also at the top of your list of support group members should be a personal trainer. If you can afford it, a personal trainer is the best way to meet weight loss or maintenance goals. A personal trainer will also be able to correct your form and give you tips to making your workout go as successfully as possible. He or she can provide mental support, as well, urging you to do better at all times. If you can’t afford an in person trainer, you might want to try out a virtual trainer. Jeanie Callen Barat, “The Fitness Jeanie” has a few good programs that she provides over the Internet. I’ve met her and she’s really nice. You can learn more at her website, Callen Fitness.

Family Support

Your family can also provide a great support system. Even while you are at home and not doing exercise, per se, you and your family can together work to live a healthier lifestyle by not smoking, eating healthy foods, and getting outside more often instead of sitting on the couch every day. You can take your whole family to the gym to try aerobics workouts. This is a great way to bond as well as do something right for your bodies together.

A Workout Buddy

Lastly, look to others who are working out to round out your support system. You can work out with a partner — a workout buddy — in order to stay motivated. At one job, a group of us went to the nearby swimming pool to do laps during lunch. At a couple of other jobs, a group of us would walk during lunch. Having this group helped me stay motivated and keep the exercise up on days I might not have had the will power to do it alone.

You can also look to more wider workout partners by joining a class. After your class and showering, hang out with these new friends and you’ll find that living a healthy life is rewarding and easier to do that you may have first thought. When you are starting an exercise program, having a good group of support people can truly make all the difference.
