physiotherapy.jpgNot too long ago, I was working on my chiropractor’s website. One of the pages I did was about “physiotherapy.” I asked him what the difference was between physiotherapy and physical therapy, because they didn’t look any different. He told me they were the same thing, but only a physical therapist can provide physical therapy, so everyone else has to use the term “physiotherapy.”

I guess it’s kind of like Champagne — only sparkling wine from Champagne can call itself Champagne.

Anyway, if you spend much time at a computer, which most writers do, there will probably come a time that you’ll need physiotherapy. So I thought I’d spend a moment explaining what it is.

Get in Shape with Ballroom Dancing

ballroomdance.jpgI’m not big on reality shows. In fact, I only give two a second look: Last Comic Standing, because I love stand-up comedy, and Dancing with the Stars, because I love dance.

But something else has occurred to me — both shows can have a positive impact on your body! Think about it a moment. Laughter is a good exercise for both body and mind. So watching Last Comic Standing can give you a mini workout if you think the jokes are funny. Some of those comedians have had me laughing so hard water was coming out of my eyes.

Eating Right with a Busy Schedule

      | del.icio.us | Furl | ma.gnolia | Netscape | RawSugar | reddit | Spurl | StumbleUpon | Yahoo MyWeb |

foodplanning.jpgIf you’re anything like me, you keep a busy schedule. Ideas for new stories come at you from all directions — the news, the book you’re reading, your dreams, bits on conversations you over hear, etc. You do keep a note book with you at all times to jot this stuff down, right?

Anyway, the reason I mention all this is that being busy can prevent us from doing do diligence with our diet. We forgo prep time and grab something convenient, like a cookie or a burger. But this can be a slippery slope that not only takes away from your appearance (which can have far-reaching psychological effects), but it takes away your energy and, at least some of your health.

yogawarrior.jpgYoga is a mind-body exercise, a method of focusing and calming the mind through strengthening the body. How often do we find that we are unable to write well because of the confusions and conflicts in our mind weigh down heavily upon us?

Stress is the number one suspect affecting all parts of our physical, endocrine and emotional systems. And with the help of yoga, we can achieve balance among these systems. Healthy Eating with Little Money

groceries.jpgSometimes, when you look at the grocery aisle, it can seem that you need a lot of money to eat healthily. Fast food is cheap. Good food … not so much. But I have good news, if you are interested in eating a healthy diet, you don’t have to be rich to do so.

It is totally possible to involve yourself with a healthful diet on a tight budget (and so many writers are on tight budgets these days). Of course, you may have to “pay” for it in other ways. For example, you might have to forgo fast food and take a little bit of extra time and effort to plan your meals. But you can make good and inexpensive food choices to provide your body with excellent nutrition.

          Step One: Planning
When you go shopping, take a list with you of the healthy foods you need to purchase. Don’t wing it. Don’t just walk up and down the aisles without a plan. Basically, shop with purpose.
