A Spirit Journal

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

spiritjournal.jpgO.K. With this post I’m going to make the following assumptions about you, dear reader.

  • You’re a writer — why else would you be reading a blog with “writer” in the title?
  • You spend a great deal of your time writing (or in other writing support activities).
  • You make a good deal of your income from your writing.

That said, I have a question for you: Do you take time to write just for the sheer pleasure it brings you? Do you write just for yourself because it helps you figure stuff out?

If not, you are missing out on one of writing’s biggest benefits.

I recommend you find a nice journal that feels good in your hand and keep it as a Spirit Journal. This is a journal you write in when you have random, meandering thoughts that you don’t want to loose. This is the journal you write in when there’s something you want to figure out and writing about it helps you. This is the journal where you keep all you big thoughts, bit dreams and big plans.

This the journal where your spirit expresses itself in writing.

It is so important to have an outlet for this kind of stuff. Personally, I like finding a journal that I enjoy holding and writing in. But you can always do this stuff on the computer or into a Dictaphone. You just need to record these thoughts and feelings somewhere. And you should do this at least once a week.

O.K. I’m off my pedestal now. This post just came bursting out of me today — I pondered what I was going to say all day yesterday. Yeah, this wasn’t quite as eloquent as I’d hoped, but here it is anyway — and it comes from the heart. poker spielen spielgeldstrip poker online game, poker superstars online game, poker online gamefive draw pokerwww online poker depoker texa holdemparty poker spielregelntexas holdem kostenlos downloadpoker regeln all intexas holdem regelpoker spielregeln, poker spielregeln anleitung, kartenspiel poker spielregelnfull tilt pokeronline poker kostenlossichere online spielepoker regeln straightinternet texas pokertexas holdem flash gametexas holdem spielpoker spiel geldall in holdem pokeromaha poker spielregelnpoker spielen berlinpoker texas holdem regelnpoker mit bonusonline games poker, online games poker gratis spielen, online games poker texaspoker texas holdem freewareregeln für pokertexas holdem strategienpoker frei spielentexas holdem poker online spielenpoker regeln druckenparty poker gamestexas holdem rulespoker online spielen ohne anmeldenpoker spielen, strip poker online spielen, poker online spielen texas holdtexas holdem poker game download, texas holdem poker game, poker texas holdem online gamepoker signup bonuspoker spielen softwareonline gewinnspieltexas holdem checkpoker spiel gratis downloadstrip poker online gamepoker no deposit bonusgewinn spielenkostenlos poker spielen deutschpoker game downlaodholdem poker spielregelnpoker chips onlinelan poker spielpoker texas holdem kartenpoker regeln reihenfolge

Understanding Your Soul and Self

innerself.gifUnderstanding your inner self is very important in self-development. If you are to be a better, well-rounded person, you have to understand the importance of your inner self. This is especially true of fiction writers, for this is where your characters come from. Your inner self is the source of your emotions, as well as subconscious decisions you might take for granted.

In our day-to-day lives, we experience all sorts of experiences, and these experiences shape how we are — be it in our inner self or the self we show to the world. At times, we do not even realize the effect that day-to-day experiences have on our inner self.

Take a daughter who is constantly being shouted at by her father, although she might be able to walk around with a broad smile, at times the shouting could have an adverse effect on the poor girl’s inner self. [Worse yet, it might even affect the expression of her very genetics, causing disease later in life.] Our inner self is the intimate part of our self; we keep it very guarded deep inside us.

Giving Your All

handheart.gifThe act of giving your very best to the needy can likewise cultivate the best emotional satisfaction in your heart. It is a profound way to feed your spirit. Whatever form of help you extend, be it service or something of value, you will undoubtedly receive something better in return.

Is there anything better than a simple “thank you” that is meant with sincerity? Is there anything better than the appreciation that makes you feel needed and important? Is there anything better than to see smiles on other people’s faces for having made them feel equally important and cared for?

If your physical resources are limited, you can put your talent or creativity to work. You’re a writer, remember? You are naturally creative! Your urge to help those in need should inspire you to find ways in accumulating resources to actualize your intention. You can come up with ideas to generate more money through fund raising programs. You may also give more of your time doing volunteer service. You can use your writing talent to tell the stories that need to be told, but aren’t.

7 Ways to A Better You

yourpurpose.jpgIn today’s world, we are barraged with a multitude of images of how we are supposed to be. Thinner. Stronger. Prettier. Smarter. You name it — there’s something out there to compare yourself with and … fall short.

This is not the way to live. You don’t need to compete with celebrities or professional trainers or even each other to maintain your self-esteem. All you need to do is know your core and become one with your sense of self.

I heard Stella Pope Duarte, author of If I Die in Juárez and Let Their Spirits Dance, earlier this week and she shared this little parable with us:

A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, “I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one.”

The grandson asked him, “Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?”

The grandfather answered, “The one I feed.”

You must always be vigilant and be careful of which wolf you feed each day. Here are some things you can think about over the next week that might help you feed the wolf that’s right for you.

A Dozen Ways to Increase Your Happiness

smileyangel.jpgOne challenge I’ve had in organizing The Holistic Writer is breaking topics up and putting them in the appropriate area: Mind, Body or Sprit. Many of these topics overlap greatly. For example, today’s topic.

Being happy is a way to feed the soul, but many of the tips for increasing your sense of happiness and making your life more fulfilling listed below will also benefit your mind and body.

Social Networks

Social networks or relationships are essential to happiness. People are different. Accept people for who or what they are, keep away from clashes, constant arguments, and let go of all kinds of resentments. If arguments seem inevitable still try and make an effort to understand the situation and you might just get along with well with the person, anyway.
